The Kolbe Rosary was inspired by St. Maximillian Kolbe, whose feast day is August 14.

Known to most for his heroic martyrdom during WWII at a Nazi concentration camp, St. Maximillian Kolbe was a fascinating, modern-day saint with a deep devotion to Our Lady and the rosary.

A Franciscan, St. Maximillian established several monasteries during his lifetime (including one in Japan) as well as founded a spiritual "militia," titled "Militia Immaculata" or "Army of the Immaculate One." He also published a periodical titled "Knight of the Immaculate" promoting devotion to Our Lady.

One of the more interesting stories associated with St. Maximillian, and the inspiration behind this rosary, was a vision he had where Our Lady presented him with two crowns: a white crown for purity and a red crown for martyrdom. She asked him to choose a crown; he chose both.

Our new Kolbe Rosary features 25 "Hail Mary" beads made from red jasper (symbolizing the crown of martyrdom) and 25 "Hail Mary" beads made from white river stone (symbolizing the crown of purity). "Our Father" beads are made from metallic hematite.  The bronze centerpiece features Our Lady and the crucifix features an image of St. Francis (paying homage to St. Maximillian's religious order, the Franciscans).

Handmade in the USA, the Kolbe Rosary is approximately 16" long. The crucifix is 1 1/2" long.
